Google Meet Video Calls Just Got More Expressive With New Emoji Reactions
If you’re a fan of video calls, you may be happy to know that Google Meet now offers new emoji reactions. You can add a smiley face or a frowny face to your text, and you can even create 360-degree backgrounds to really express your mood. This feature is particularly useful if you’re meeting with a group of people online, because you can make your entire meeting look more personal and expressive.
Positive vs negative emoji usage
If you’re on a Google Meet video call, you just got a lot more expressive with new emoji reactions. These are a series of icons that are used on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to show your feelings.
The emoji can represent anything from emotions to actions, to collections of things, or specific species. Some are commonly understood visual elements, while others are not.
One new reaction is intended to show care for someone in the midst of a pandemic. It sits next to the existing “lol”, “wow”, and “like” emojis.
Another proposed reaction is for someone to hug a friend. This is similar to the “heart” emoji, which shows a heart-shaped face. Alternatively, the proposed emoji may use motion lines, which are also common visual elements.
A new species of owl, on the other hand, is not justified. Adding an emoji for the word ‘old’ and an emoji for ‘NEU’ does not justify adding two emojis for the same animal.
360-degree backgrounds
Google is bringing 360-degree video conferencing to the masses with Google Meet. This is a big deal, as you’ll be able to see your colleagues in a whole new light. The company has already introduced some standard face filters, along with a slew of 360-degree video conferencing options. So, whether you’re at work or on the go, you’ll be able to get your business meetings in on the ground floor. And, the company is adding live captions to the mix.
The good news is that, assuming you’re the kind of person who’s willing to pay for it, you’ll be able to take your meetings to the next level with Google Meet’s immersive 360-degree video conferencing capabilities. You’ll be able to choose between a number of pre-selected backgrounds, or you can upload your own. All of the 360-degree video conferencing capabilities will be available on Android and iOS. That’s not all, though, as Google Meet will also be accessible to consumers who sign up for its paid Workspace version of the app.
A set agenda
The best way to ensure a smooth video chat is to have a prearranged meeting agenda. It will also give your synchronous participants time to contribute asynchronously. This way, they’ll be more likely to come up with a useful discussion.
There are two ways to schedule a Google Meet call. First, you can use Gmail to send out an invite with a link to your meeting. Or, you can use Google Calendar to create an event. Once you’ve created an event, you can create a special link for your event. Your attendees can then click the link to join the call.
If you have more than one person involved in the call, it’s a good idea to make them aware of the event by sending out the invites. Sending out the invites at least two weeks in advance will help them get prepared.
The other option is to ask each of your coworkers to provide feedback on the meeting. Doing this will not only reveal how they feel about the meeting, it will also give you an idea of what to expect from your group.
Speak up when something is not working
There are a few things you can do to speak up when something is not working on Google Meet video calls. First, you can try to use your voice, but you might find that you have to mute yourself.
You can also mute other people in the video call. To mute another participant, click the mute button on the person’s icon. If you are dialing in via phone, press the *6 key to unmute.
Google Meet offers a number of features for meeting attendees, such as the ability to raise and lower hands, allowing moderators to lower their hands while speaking. Additionally, participants can vote up or down questions in the poll. When the poll starts, moderators will notify attendees of the vote.
In addition to being able to share presentations and video, you can also use the screen sharing feature. Using the screen sharing icon, you can present one window, and you can share links and documents with others.
